Racism, misogyny and homophobia are running rampant in London's Metropolitan Police force, an official review of the institution found, recommending that the force undergo a dramatic overhaul to address deep-seated issues that it said have been exacerbated by a culture of "defensiveness and denial."
The Met, as the force is commonly called, "has failed over time to ensure the integrity of its officers and therefore of the organisation," Baroness Louise Casey, a member of the second British parliamentary chamber, wrote in the report released Tuesday. The Met commissioned the review after an officer admitted to kidnapping, raping and murdering a woman in 2021.
