Migrants’ perilous route to Europe is at its busiest—and deadliest—in years

SFAX, Tunisia — Mohamed Sanoh and nine cousins and friends from Guinea paid thousands of dollars to get on a crowded iron vessel leaving the country for the shores of Italy last month. About halfway through a roughly 10-hour journey, Tunisia’s border guards caught them and forced them back to land.

Now, all of them are saving up to try again.
