Diversity and ethics scandals have led to the boycotting of the usually star-studded event.
The Golden Globes has previously been hailed as one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the film industry. However, this year it was cancelled.
The Globes found themselves with no broadcaster, no celebrities and no red carpet, after an LA Times piece reported that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) had no black members.
The HFPA have stated they are committed to increasing “diversity, equity, and inclusion across the global entertainment industry”.
Although the event was boycotted, it still managed to go ahead in private, with no press allowed inside the ceremony - perhaps indicating the power of the event.
Some actors and directors still decided to tune in from their sofas around the world to accept awards, which brings into question whether the boycott was successful or not.
