Just another green-washing front for companies or a change for unsustainable consumption?

  • With conversations around sustainability gaining traction, the term ‘circular economy’ is being used by every major company.
  • At the basic level it is a model of production and consumption which makes mindful and optimal use of resources.
  • The idea is to move away from the buy, use, discard model of linear economy and focusing on sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing and recycling materials. Each of these stages has economic potential.
  • Example: After buying a smartphone from Company A, using it for a limited time, you return it to Company A which takes it apart and reuses all the internal components elsewhere.
