In one country after the other the wave of the Omicron variant is reaching its peak. Now governments are eager to lift restrictions.

  • There is a sigh of relief in many European countries plagued by Covid-19: The wave of infections with the Omicron variant seems to have peaked in the UK, France, Italy and Spain.
  • While Denmark is still registering record infection numbers the country has decided to completely lift all Covid restrictions – pointing to high vaccination rates and low hospitalization.
  • Other countries are expected to follow suit. With fewer people dying ore suffering from severe illness than in previous waves pressure to reopen the economy increases.
  • A big question remains however: Will Omicron increase immunity in populations and lead the world out of the pandemic? Scientists are still struggling to find an answer.
