  • On Wednesday the conservative opposition candidate, Yoon Suk-yeol, was elected as the new president of South Korea. The 61-year-old is more hawkish on North Korea than his predecessor.
  • David Bennett, the first person to receive a pig heart has died two months after the transplant. In a statement, his son said “we hope this story can be the beginning of hope and not the end.”
  • Australian PM Scott Morrison has declared a state of national emergency over the flooding in New South Wales and Queensland, which has killed 20 people. The declaration is a national first.
