Germany prepares to swear in Chancellor Olaf Scholz. 5 most important ministers you must know.
Olaf Scholz will swear-in today and begin his era as the post-Merkel Chancellor of Germany. His party SPD has formed a coalition with the liberal FDP and the environment-focused Greens.
While the election results were out by September 27, what followed from then to now were back door talks as to how the coalition partners would work and ministries be divided.
While Olaf Scholz will be leading this new coalition there are other important personalities that you will be hearing a lot about in the coming years.
Five of these: Robert Habeck, Annalena Baerbock, Christian Lindner, Karl Lauterback and Cem Özdemir have relatively important portfolios.
Some of the ministers have already made their ambitions clear which has already ruffled some feathers. Baerbock, for instance, as the new Foreign minister has called for a tougher stance on China.
Karl Lauterbach, the bow-tie sporting scientist and SPD politician has been awarded the Health Ministry. While his predictions around Covid often came true, he is also known to be a lone wolf.
The Greens’ Robert Habeck, who will also be the Vice Chancellor, will be handling the twin ministries of Climate and Economy. Will he turn calamity into prosperity?
