Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian-American journalist was reportedly attacked by IDF forces.

  • Earlier this week, it was reported that Israeli forces had shot dead Al Jazeera’s journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the occupied West Bank.
  • Abu Akleh was a longtime TV correspondent for Al Jazeera Arabic. She was killed while covering Israeli army raids in the city of Jenin.
  • Abu Akleh was wearing a press vest and was standing with other journalists when she was shot. Her colleague Ali al-Samoudi, was wounded by a bullet in the back. He is now in stable condition
  • The killing has added to a death toll of as many as 28 media staff who have been killed this year alone, according to the International Press Institute (IPI).
  • The Deputy director of the IPI, Scott Griffen, said that journalists "are coming under increased attack around the world" especially "those reporting in conflict zones.”
