Former US President Donald Trump’s media ambitions have got a $1 billion backing.

  • Trump announced the launch of a social media platform - Truth Social - which “encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.”
  • Ever since Trump was banned from major social media networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat for inciting the violent insurrection n the US Capitol, he has been threatening action.
  • Along with the launch of Truth Social, the Trump Media & Technology Group announced that it would be followed by a video-on-demand service for “non-woke entertainment.”
  • There is no clarity on who has invested in Trump’s media group. Digital World Acquisition Corp., is expected to take Trump’s media group public by listing it on New York Stock Exchange.
  • Trump claims his media company will fight against the “tyranny of Big Tech”. At the time of his blocking, Trump had over 100 million followers combined on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
